ACTIONDAY JOB DECRIPTION

ARMHS Mental Health Certified Peer Specialists I & II

The potential applicant will provide rehabilitative services to adults with significant mental impairments through providing a supportive and professional mental care and instruction for
upholding psychiatric stabilization, improving upon social competencies and capital along with personal and emotional wellbeing with the objective of lifelong management and enhanced functionality from debilitating
mental disorders.

Peer Specialists are supervised closely by ActionDay’s ARMHS Clinical Treatment Supervisor.

Our Mental Health Certified Peer Specialists are mental health professionals who passionately care for and empathize with adults under the Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services
(ARMHS) program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services meeting all DHS and Medicaid requirements.
• Tutor skills for mental health wellness & relapse management
• Development of dedicated and disciplined recovery goals, rehab goals, and wellness objectives with client centeredness as a primary concern
• Oversee compliance with Federal, State & Local privacy and confidentiality in treatment records and services
• Interact with a wide assortment of other professionals and stakeholders such as rehab personnel, clients’ families, medical staff, and county case staff(interactions need not be in-person).
• Mandatory but infrequent staff meetings are required
• Maintain a compassionate, non-judgemental, and values -neutral close therapeutic relationship with client and team
• Under supervision of our ARMHS Lead Clinical Treatment Supervisor provide appropriate clinical interventions
• Attend staff meetings and participate in team-based decisions regarding all clients and services.
• Maintain client files, update client files, update treatment plans a minimum of once every six months, and do all required documentation as specified in DHS guidelines
• Take accurate case notes in each session for each billable unit using the ActionDay’s EHR system
• Requirement of a MN driver’s license in good standing
• Must have one’s reliable transportation with auto insurance
• Must be ready to provide services in multiple locations and be willing to travel
• Maintain a high spiritedness, attitude, self-starterness, and respectful professional relationships with clients, management, public and staff
• Awareness of legal, client and public trust and reputational sensitivities for conduct unbecoming of the highest standards of ActionDay.
• Offer references to other health practitioners and clinics as necessary with ARMHS Lead Treatment Supervisor
• Maintain contacts with other providers as necessary
• Assemble references and network with other organizations or NGOs on community resources
• Participate in inter-agency sister consultations and functions as may be required.

The Mental Health Certified Peer Specialist will report to our ARMHS Lead Treatment Supervisor.

Certified Peer Specialists will be a dedicated provider of treatment plans that are functionally restorative and train the client for the identification, development, and management of relapse triggers and negative emotionality for enhanced wellbeing, psychiatric mental stability, emotional and personal adaptations, social skills and competencies enhancement, identification and impact of environmental factors on individual and community health, and independent orientation and living skills.

Certified Peer Specialists will also provide a supportive approach to identify self-help skill deficits and mitigate overall bearing on the daily, familial and professional life of the client to put them on a firm foundation to enhanced wellbeing.

The agency provides services to clients in the Twin Cities metro areas.

Salary

$26-30/hr DOQ

Qualifications

Must meet Minnesota DHS qualifications for Mental Health Certified Peer Specialists in one of the following ways.

Certified Peer Specialist Level I

Level I peer specialists must meet the following criteria:

• Be at least 21 years of age
• Demonstrates leadership, social and personal empathy and advocacy skills
• Successfully certified by the the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) as a Certified Peer Specialist
• High school diploma (or its equivalents).

Certified Peer Specialist Level II

Level II peer specialists must meet all requirements of a Level I CPS and one or more of the following criteria:

• Is qualified as a mental health practitioner
• A CPS on a crisis stabilization team must have completed at least 30 hours of crisis intervention and stabilization training during their first two years on a team in prior employment.

A Mental Health Peer Specialist must have recommended soft skills competence to work with vulnerable adults.

Has completed at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields and has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with: a) Mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance, or  b) traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects 
  2. Has at least 4,000 hours of supervised work experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with any of the following: a) Mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance, or b) traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects
  3. Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with any of the following: a) Mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance, or  b) traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects; and receives clinical supervision as required at least once a week from a mental health professional until the requirement of 4,000 hours of supervised experience is met. 
  4. Has a graduate student internship or a bachelor’s or master’s degree and is a graduate student in behavioral sciences or related fields and is formally assigned by an accredited college or university to an agency or facility for clinical training. 
  5. Has a bachelor’s or master’s degree with any of the following: Holds a master’s or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields. Holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences or related fields and completes a practicum or internship that (a) requires direct interaction with adults or children served, and (b) is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields. 

A Mental Health Practitioner for an adult member must have training working with adults.
